Six years ago, Todd started preparing to become Catholic by attending RCIA classes. It would be a 2 year process of weekly meetings, and several retreats before he would be Baptized. Then he was transferred out of state.
Once we were settled and found our new Catholic church we would become members of, he would start the RCIA program again. However, he would have to wait to start until Spring. Spring never came, because we got transferred back to Houston. Moving to a new and different part of Houston, the process started again. We found a church we would call home, started RCIA classes again. Then between a new baby and his work requiring him to travel quit a bit, weekly meeting were difficult to make. He lost too many weeks to fulfill his requirements.
Finally, six years later, he was able to contribute the time his heart felt necessary to learn and prepare himself for becoming Catholic.
Many people just assume that all people are Baptized sometime within the first year of their birth. Not so. Todd was never baptized as a christian ...into any religion. So, for Todd to choose to be baptized as a christian into the Catholic church, was undoubtedly one of the most amazing things I have ever seen my husband do. His commitment and perseverance finally brought him into a community and family who all have the same core beliefs. I am so proud of him, the path he has chosen, and the role he will provide for our children.
Although they are young and do not understand the whole meaning of the Baptism, Kelsey and Carter were also very excited and proud of their father, and do understand he is now Catholic like them. They got stay up late, participate, and loved seeing their Dad becoming part of the Catholic church. Todd was Baptized along with 31 other Elects into the Catholic church at the Easter Vigil. It was an extremely beautiful Mass. We saw Todd in a different light, an inspiring light, a more fulfilled and joyful light. Congratulations Todd!! We are so very happy for you!
