Halloween in the 'hood

Halloween weekend was super fun this year. I was very ready to participate in Halloween activities after being in bed for the week prior with the flu. I took the kiddos to another pumpkin patch with their friends, Tate and Kip, from across the street. Since it was the night before Halloween, most pumpkins were gone, but the kids loved all the props. Kelsey squealed when she saw the Wizard of Oz set.

On Halloween, Kelsey dressed up as a Fifties girl in a poodle skirt and Carter had picked out another Pirate ensemble. However, he chose not to wear it and went as a marathon runner instead. He wore his Cypress Run for the Cure shirt.

We did carve pumpkins, and Kelsey decided that since the flu had stayed too long at our house in the weeks prior to all this, hers would be in honor of it finally being gone!

Happy Birthday Dr.Todd (a.k.a Mr. Mom)

As I sit in my bed feeling like I am going to die, I suddenly realized that today is Todd's birthday. TODD's BIRTHDAY!!! I feel horrible, not so much because of the flu anymore, but because my best friend and husband is having a birthday and all I have done for him is given him 100% control of the house....taking care of the kids, breathing treatments, baths, bedtime rituals, putting out fires, making lunches, preparing meals and snacks, getting them dressed and teeth brushed, and all the carpooling that comes with my regular responsibilities. All while I have been sleeping, moaning and groaning, sipping ginger ale, and ...well, I won't go into the other details that come with the flu.

I have this philosophy that sometimes things DO happen in order for reasons beyond our control, and it's not always just coincidence. Todd took this entire week off to use some of his vacation. He had plans too! None of which were helping take care of Kelsey get through food poisoning over the weekend, nor taking over for me AND playing DR. and servant to me while I have been sick. However, as he keeps telling me and himself, "it all worked out great since I'm on vacation".

My point IS, Happy Birthday Todd!! And I am truly sorry your day is not more memorable, or maybe it is memorable. I will definitely be making it up to you as soon as I am back on my feet. Thank you for helping me out and I love you.

One of my favorite blogs I follow also has some of the yummiest recipes. This one is so yummy, the kids keep asking for more. That in itself makes it worth making them over and over.

Dewberry Day

Saturday was absolutely beautiful weather.. mid 70's all day, dry, clear and not a cloud in the sky. What better idea is there than to take the kids to their all time favorite October place to have a good time ....than Dewberry Farms? None other for my 3 and 5 year old. We headed out about 4 o'clock, just in time to enjoy the evening part of the day. The kids rode ponies, climbed huge and slid down huge dirt hills, went down giant PVC roller slides, swung on rope swings to land in giant hay piles, climbed enormous homemade forts and zipped across on zip lines. We ended it with a hay ride pulled by a tractor out past the colossal corn maze and pumpkin patches to the woods beyond a creek for a spooky and interesting lighted pumpkin stroll with more than 600 carved pumpkins of every kind of design or character a person can imagine.
Kelsey took this picture.

Practicing their roping skills

At the end of it all, no one wanted to go home, but Carter did ask if he could go to the car for a nap, and come back when he woke up. Kelsey's favorite thing was the zip line and Carter's was the giant roller slide and riding ponies. Todd and My favorite parts were seeing all their smiles and hearing all their laughter. Pretty darn good day.

Bring on the Fall Fun

This time of year is our most favorite. Although, we never know exactly when the weather will sync up with the season here in Cypress, Texas, we still participate in the Fall time fun. All the Fall festivals, costume shopping, decorating and of course pumpkin patch excursions.

LOVE this time of year....the kids can never get enough of the pumpkin patch fun!!

Outstanding in the Field at the Animal Farm

Todd and I finally got some time away, just the two of us. Really! No kids! We spent it at this year's Outstanding in the Field, held at Animal Farm in Cat Springs, Texas. What an adventure in dining at a farm to table experience. It was a most intriguing evening in dining - dining at a table with 200 others.
