For the Love of a child....and a Turtle

It wasn't enough that I had more things on my list to complete than I had time for in the day before I had to pick Kelsey up from her last day of school and get both kiddos to their 6mos. dentist appointment. It wasn't enough that I was sweating my *** off in 90 degree heat with stifling humidity. And it wasn't enough that I had had people waiting on me back at my house - alone.

On my speedy way back from taking Kelsey to school, Carter yelled at me "STOP!!! Someone might kill it!!" After the startling warning, I screeched to a halt to see what he was frantic about. A turtle. Yes, I said a turtle. I parked out of the traffic and put my hazards on so I could retrieve a turtle that wondered out of it's pond and into a busy four lane road. I mean seriously, how could any mom leave it there and risk being called a heartless person? So, right as I was about to step out of the car, traffic came whizzing by only to hit the poor defenseless creature. Carter yells, "Oh no!!! He went fling way over to the other side!! Is he alright?" No kidding if it was not for it's hard shell this turtle that just finished flying through the air like a football would have been road kill - I would not have stopped my car.

After seeing he was all tucked up inside, we drove the stinky little creature to a pond in the hood where Carter was so proud to set him free - ALIVE!
